It was created to serve as a major building block for the scholastic, collegiate, recreation and club play throughout the country and was designed to be the future of volleyball in the United States. In 1984, the USVBA Board of Directors pledged its priority to the development of this program and reinforced their statement with staff efforts.

Bidding Process. The Game. Volleyball has come a long way from the dusty-old YMCA gymnasium of Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA, where the visionary William G. Morgan invented the sport back in 1895. It has seen the start of two centuries and the dawn of a new millennium. Volleyball is now one of the big five international sports, and the FIVB, with its 220 affiliated national federations, is the largest international sporting federation in the world.
On July 7, 1896 at Springfield College the first game of “volleyball” was played. 1895: William G. Morgan (1870-1942) created the game of volleyball but called the game Mintonette. 1896: The first exhibition match of volleyball is played at Springfield College (called International YMCA Training school in 1896).

HISTORY. Club Savannah was started in the fall of 2000 by Donna Rountree with two teams of 8 to give young girls in the Savannah area the chance to increase their volleyball skills and compete in USAV sanctioned tournaments as a member of the Palmetto Region. As the reputation of the club grew so did the membership to an average of 70 girls.
Seven years later the Santa Monica Beach Club was founded and by 1927 five more clubs were established in California. As a result, Southern California was designated origin of beach volleyball. Beach volleyball finds its way to Europe . In 1927 the new sport reached the "old world". Nudists from a Parisian suburb acted as pioneers.
